Chemical Peels at Cary MedSpa
Chemical exfoliation can be a useful tool in skincare treatment plans, providing the best possible product (acid) which is chosen for an individual’s skin type and concern
We have several chemical peel options available to clients with various skin types and conditions.
Glycolic acid has the smallest sized molecule allowing deeper penetration than other acids and stimulation of collagen production. Glycolic acid is ideal for treating light to moderate acne, moderate pigmentation issues, and fine lines and wrinkles.
Lactic acid is similar to glycolic acid in that it is an AHA but with a larger molecule structure, so does not penetrate as deeply. Lactic acid is ideal for skin lightening and hydration. Lactic acid works well for all skin types, but is commonly recommended for clients with sensitive skin conditions such as Rosacea and is a great “first time” peel.
Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid which means its lipid soluble, in other words its attracted to oil. Salicylic acid is usually recommended for oily, acneic skin, as well as psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and calluses.
The Modified Jessner’s peel is a combination of several acids including 14% resorcinol, 14% salicylic acid and 14% lactic acid with a base of alcohol. Because of the high alcohol content, a modified jessner peel is not for sensitive skin, however it is highly effective when treating combination to oily skin with photo-damage(pigment issues).
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a safe, synthetic acid used as a peeling agent by both doctors and aestheticians alike. Physicians commonly use TCA as a medium depth peel due to the skin tightening and collagen stimulating qualities it has. Estheticians use TCA at lower percentages for less aggressive peeling on clients concerned with aging, acne, Hyperpigmentation and light scarring.
It is well documented, that the healthier the skin to be treated is, no matter which peel is being applied, the better the results will be. It is best to have the skin prepped with the correct products to yield the most even and effective peel. Skin that is regularly exfoliated, proteccted from the sun and moisturized will see much better results than a client who does not care for their skin at all and has several layers of dead skin to be removed before any benefit is done. Our Aesthetician at Cary MedSpa can recommend the right products to prep your skin pre-peel for the best results possible.
Skin may also be further prepped the day of your peel with either Dermaplaning or Microdermbrasion for optimal results.
*individual results may vary.
