Restylane is made of a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid(HA) – a kind of sugar naturally produced in the body, especially in the skin, so it is biocompatible, and rarely causes allergic reactions. Restylane was one of the first hyaluronic acid fillers and is widely used.

Restylane is formulated to behave just like your body’s naturally-produced hyaluronic acid, and is injected to help reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds including the unpleasant nasolabial folds (smile lines) that run from you nose to the corners of your mouth. Restylane is also used to try and restore lost facial volume and add fullness and definition to the lips.

The Restylane family of products are composed of varying thicknesses and viscosities which provide choices for treating different areas of the face. Thinner formulations are best for fine lines and wrinkles as well as lip enhancement. Thicker formulations are great to augment facial volume and fill deep wrinkles. These hyaluronic acid fillers have very high safety profiles. This family of products also includes some formulations that contain lidocaine to decrease pain during and after injection.

Also Restylane fillers may be effective in restoring facial volume, including correction of under eye hollows. Restylane fillers generally last from 8-10 months depending on the area treated, the amount injected and your metabolism. They are widely chosen because of their ease of use and rare complications.

Individual results may vary.

The Treatment

For Restylane injection, before treatment a topical numbing cream will be put on the areas to be treated, and takes 15-20 minutes to take effect. Injections are only mildly uncomfortable. Restylane–L is Restylane combined with Lidocaine to help reduce discomfort during and after treatment. After treatment you may experience some bruising and swelling that will last a few days.

Our plastic surgeons Dr. Peter Kreymerman and Dr. Renzo Zaldivar both have significant experience in dermal injections and are skilled in the use of Restylane.
