Weight Loss Surgery
The LAP-BAND® System is the first and only adjustable gastric banding system that’s FDA-approved for patients who are at least 30 pounds overweight, with a BMI of at least 30 kg/m2 and one or more obesity related co-morbid conditions.
Safely and effectively, the revolutionary yet simple technology behind the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System reduces the amount of food that your stomach can hold at one time. This helps you gradually lose weight and keep it off. So you can live a healthier life — for your children, your family, and yourself.
If non-surgical methods have not helped you lose weight and keep it off, you still have another option at Carolina Aesthetics & Weight Loss Center. Our expert bariatric surgeon, Dr. Paul Enochs, is a leader in weight loss surgery. For those who weigh up to 275 lbs. or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 45, we offer LAP-BAND® surgery. LAP-BAND® surgery is a minimally invasive surgical approach with no stomach stapling or cutting, or intestinal rerouting, it’s adjustable and reversible and has a lower operative complication rate than with gastric bypass.
The Carolina Aesthetics and Weight Loss Center is the only local center that offers Single Incision LAP-BAND®. Our Board Certified Bariatric Surgeon, Dr. Paul Enochs, is the leading expert nationwide in the procedure. He performed North Carolina’s first SILS LAP-BAND®, and has performed to date more SILS LAP-BAND® than any other surgeon in the country.
Here’s a quick and informative overview of the advantages of the LAP-BAND® System:
LAP-BAND® System

A restrictive procedure during which an adjustable gastric band is placed around the upper part of the stomach. This creates a smaller stomach pouch, which restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time and increases the time it takes for the stomach to empty. As a result, patients achieve sustained weight loss by limiting food intake, reducing appetite, and slowing digestion.
Considerations for Bariatric Surgery
As with any surgery, individuals considering bariatric surgery must discuss the risks and benefits with the surgeon. Bariatric surgery has associated risks and long-term consequences and should be carefully considered prior to beginning this journey. The operation works best when patients promote lifelong behavioral and dietary changes. Once you have achieved your weight loss, there may be cosmetic considerations such as excess skin. Carolina Aesthetics and Weight Loss Center can surgically remove the loose skin.
FDA Expands Use of Banding System for Weight Loss
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has expanded the use of Allergan’s LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System, a device implanted around the upper part of the stomach to limit the amount of food that can be eaten at one time.
The Feb. 16, 2011, approval expands the use of the LAP-BAND® System to include obese individuals with a BMI of 30 to 34 who also have an existing condition related to their obesity. The FDA approved the LAP-BAND® System in 2001 for use in severely obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 40, those with a BMI of at least 35 and who also have an existing severe condition related to their obesity, such as heart disease or diabetes, or those who are at least 100 pounds overweight. BMI is a general measure of body fat based on an individual’s weight and height. Read more.
Cost
With today’s rising health costs, it’s normal to wonder if now is the time to consider the LAP-BAND® System. But you should know: extra weight often goes hand in hand with extra financial burden. Studies show obesity increases a person’s healthcare costs by 36% and medication costs by 77%, compared with people in a normal weight range.1 Knowing this, you may want to consider your own:
For this reason, acting now — using the LAP-BAND® System to significantly reduce your weight — may also reduce your weight-related costs. Carolina Aesthetic and Weight Loss Center is one of the most affordable state of the art surgical centers offering out patient Lap Band procedures.
